Ansara Hotel highly recommends the witnessing and/or participation in such a ceremonial that is truly part of the Lao culture. It is not limited to Buddhist and Lao people. Anyone can join as long as a respectful demeanor is carried out.
- Take off your shoes while kneeling on the mat (feet not facing anyone in front of you), if possible, wear a scarf on your shoulder (you will be shown how to wear it at the hotel) and keep noise level to a minimum.
- Note that ladies should not enter in contact with the monks and thus pay special attention when placing the food in the bowls. If you want to take pictures, please keep a fair distance to the monks and avoid taking snapshots with a flash.
- Using a zoom and positioning yourself sidewise is a good idea.
- Try not to be outstandingly intrusive and offending while witnessing/participating in this event.
- A good dose of empathy is necessary: how would you feel if you were one of the monks? Remember it is better to capture an image with your heart and soul rather than with a camera.
With this in mind, you are now ready for an intimate and memorable moment in one’s life.
